The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has passed into law a bill repealing the law that provided for the pension and gratuity of former governors, former deputy governors, former assembly speakers and former deputy speakers. The Governor said the law is in line with the 1999 Constitution which provides that every pensioner must have worked for a period of 10 years and must be at least 45 years old.
The Governor also mentioned that the law would help strengthen the Internally Generated Revenue of the State since the State would no longer be paying salaries and allowances to ex-governors and speakers. The Governor praised the State House of Assembly for their resolve in strengthening the economy of the state.
