Most of the companies and organizations are utilizing the work-from-home method in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. However, many workers are not used to this new system of work, especially in Nigeria where it is believed that you have to be on the road if you are working. Here are techniques you can employ to enhance productivity when working from home.ย
First, we advise that you create a space for work in your home. It doesn’t have to be outrageous. It could be a table and a chair in the corner of your room. It could even be in your kitchen. Just somewhere that gets you out of your bed and makes you be in a work mode. When you have a place like this, your productivity will be enhanced when working from home.
Secondly, it is advisable that you utilize your normal working hours at home. Do not start to work by 12 noon because you are at home. Simply just assume you are at work, and begin to work early just like you do under normal circumstances. By doing this, your work will not become sluggish and your productivity will be enhanced.
Thirdly, get rid of household chores that might act as little foxes of distraction that eat into your time. If you need to wash plates or wash clothes or clean the house, make sure you do all the night before so that your space is cleared and you will not be thinking of things you should be doing like cooking instead of working.ย
Fourthly, remember to take breaks in between work. I hope you still remember the old Proverbial saying that says “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Being in a work environment brings interaction with other co-workers with it; however this might be different in a home environment. There might be no one to interact with at home. In such instances, it is best to take a break and do whatever rejuvenated your mind. The break should be a limited period of time and should not take the whole day. You could listen to some slow or fast music for 5 minutes or take a walk around your compound, depending on the option that works best for you.
- It is also important that you have a well-planned schedule for your work the night before, so that you will be sure of what to do and how to accomplish them. Also, never skip breakfast, drink lots of water and stay safe.
