ExxonMobil Donates Breast Cancer Clinic to LUTH

Mobil Producing Nigeria, an affiliate of ExxonMobil, in Joint Venture with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, has supported the construction of a one-stop breast care clinic for women in Lagos, Nigeria, through the Run for Cure Africa (RFCA) Non-governmental Organization (NGO).

The Breast Care Clinic is a ground-breaking facility which will provide reliable, specialized Breast care services for women in Lagos State and surrounding communities. For the first time, in Nigeria, women will be able to seek diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer in a single medical facility.

โ€œMobil Producing Nigeria is pleased to be involved in the construction of the first exclusive breast cancer clinic in Lagos state.โ€ said Doctor Bello Aliyu, Group Medical Director, Mobil Producing Nigeria. ย โ€œIt is our hope that the beneficiaries of this breast cancer clinic will endeavor to make the most of it. We expect that this clinic will be maintained and maximally utilized for the benefit of all.โ€

The breast care clinic will provide a facility where women can receive both physical and psychological support when dealing with breast cancer. The clinic space was allocated by the hospital management at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and was renovated through financial support from MPN, which also provided for the purchase of new equipment for the clinic.

โ€œWe are thrilled to be opening a dedicated space for our pink fighters to receive treatment and support in comfortโ€ said RFCA Founder, Ebele Mbanugo. โ€œOur goal is to reduce the physical, psychological, and financial stress of a breast cancer diagnosis in Nigeria. We accomplish this through free breast cancer screening programs, awareness events, and financial assistance programs for treatment.โ€

The new clinic will also be host to a new Patient Navigator programme, which will provide ongoing personal support to the clinicโ€™s patients throughout their treatment and beyond – helping them navigate their way through the treatment of breast cancer, which can be both physically and psychologically challenging.
