“Our privileges blind us” – Tunde Onakoya
After sharing his story and scolding Just Adetoun, Tunde Onakoya pledged to take up the educational responsibility of the young girl in question.
He vowed to help put her through school from secondary to university. Onakoya noted that this should help take off some of the burden/responsibility on the girl’s parents.

Recall that Just Adetoun in another clip was seen visiting the sweeper at her house, apologising for embarrassing her. She promised to place them on salary and help improve their financial situation.
Below is an excerpt of Tunde Onakoya’s reaction:
“Extremely cruel to humiliate a mother in front of her daughter like this. Even worse that this was recorded and posted on social media. My mother used to sweep people’s houses and gutters in 2016. It hurt too much that I could do nothing financially to stop her. I often insisted on going with her, just to help fetch the water she needed so we could finish quicker and get back home before daylight. I didn’t want anyone to see us. The poverty that pushes one to hide their labour in the dark is a painful one.”

Netizens react to Tunde Onakoya’s reaction to Adetoun’s video
Below are some of the comments that trailed Tunde Onakoya’s reaction to Just Adetoun’s video:
@yomiable:
“In this Nigeria, Yorùbá people are the most compassionate and understanding, but yet we are the Bigot because we want to defend our land with our Politics.”
@tbaba22:
“She has apologised and even offered to help her. She said her reaction was more about the pain of seeing a young girl used for child labour, I know she is a clout chaser, but let’s spare her on this one.”
@ibukun_tayo:
“She later went to her house to apologise and donations were also made for the woman. She was only trying to protect the little girl, maybe the way she went about didn’t look nice in the eyes of so many, but she had good intentions towards the well-being of that child.”
@HRH_bankeoniru:
“Adetoun has been a clout chaser forever. Only individuals with mental health issues share their charitable acts online for public recognition. Help should be a private matter between the giver and their higher power. Only the divine is aware of the kind of support some people provide discreetly.”
@oyinTGSPE:
“If the woman hadn’t made that video you & others wouldn’t have helped her financially now. Let just count everything as “All things working together for her good.”
@Winifunds:
“The poverty that pushes one to hide their work in the dark is a painful one. God bless you.”
@views09:
“Our Privilege blinds us in ways we’ll never truly understand.”…We could be more human and less judgmental May God help every hustling parent out there, life isn’t easy.”
@drizzy_ysl:
“Nigeria is such a funny country dawg, everyone is so quick to pull out their phone and record nonsense and even post it on social media. Do you think she would want to bring her child and do something like this for #19,000?”
