After announcing a temporary suspension of evacuation on May 27, 2020 the Nigerian government has announced plans to resume the evacuation of some Nigerians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, made this known at its daily briefing on Monday, saying  the resumption of the evacuation process will be guided by some policies already put in place.

He said with the new protocol, the target is to evacuate a minimum of 1000 Nigerians per week, to clear the backlog of over 4,000 stranded Nigerians in the next four weeks.
He, however, did not mention the specific date the evacuation will commence.

The Secretary-General to the Federation has published a guideline for persons to be evacuated. The guideline stipulates that those who want to be evacuated are required to register with the Nigerian missions. It also stipulates that Nigerians willing to be evacuated should obtain a COVID-19 clearance showing that they are free from the virus. This means that the test must have been conducted less than 14 days before the flight or it wouldn’t be recognized. Those who test positive will not be evacuated along with the others.

Dr. Sani Aliyu has also stated that those willing to be evacuated will bear the costs implication for their lodging in Abuja or Lagos hotels for the period of two weeks; however those who stay in the arrival locations, that is Lagos or Abuja can stay at home under close supervision from the National Centre for Disease Control.
