Disney Revives Iconic Cast for ‘Cars: Lightning Racers’ Series

Bonnie Hunt, Jenifer Lewis and Paul Dooley are joining Disney Jr’s upcoming series Cars: Lightning Racers a move that highlights Disney’s focus on continuity and nostalgia as the franchise approaches a major milestone.

The returning actors will reprise their roles as Sally, Flo and Sarge, alongside other familiar voices from the Cars universe. Their inclusion reflects an effort to maintain the authenticity of Radiator Springs while introducing the story to a younger audience on Disney Jr.

The new series, described as “‘Cars: Lightning Racers’ follows Lightning McQueen as he gears up for all-new adventures in Radiator Springs alongside his hilarious best friend Mater and new friends thrill-seeking drag car Pipes and mud-loving monster truck Miles,” blends legacy characters with fresh additions.

Original stars Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy are also set to return as Lightning McQueen and Mater, reinforcing the franchise’s signature dynamic. At the same time, new voices such as Leah Lewis and Yuri Lowenthal join the cast, expanding the world with new personalities.

The decision to bring back long-time cast members comes as the Cars franchise marks its 20th anniversary since debuting in 2006. By combining established voices with new talent, Disney aims to preserve the emotional connection fans have built over the years while evolving the story for a new generation.
