The University of Cambridge has said it will scrap all face-to-face lectures until mid-2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, thus becoming the first major educational institution to officially scale back its operations for the whole of the next academic year.
A University of Cambridge spokesperson said in a statement “Lectures will continue to be made available online and it may be possible to host smaller teaching groups in person, as long as this conforms to social distancing requirements”.
Other schools are considering adapting in other ways such as: enforcing face masks, using only one pathway or entrance, and in most cases total shutdown.
Nigeria is one of those nations that has enforced a total shutdown of all its Universities Nationwide. It goes without saying, that has a developing country, Nigeria is not prepared for an online only lecture.
Nigeria has a long way to go with its epileptic power supply, high rate of data provided by the different network providers, to mention a few.
Nigeria is clearly not prepared to go virtual. Sadly, most Universities will remain on total lockdown till the end of this pandemic along with the lives of many of its students.
