Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Davido have sparked reconciliation rumours after they were spotted shaking hands at Zlatan Ibile’s bachelor party in Lagos on Thursday night, years after their public fallout.
Videos of the encounter have spread widely online. Fans are now speculating that the moment could signal an end to their long-running rivalry.
How the singers’ feud began
Burna Boy and Davido were once friends and have worked together since 2013. Davido appeared on ‘Trumpet’ from Burna Boy’s debut project, Best of Burn Series Vol. 1. Burna Boy also featured in the video for Davido’s breakout hit ‘Dami Duro’.
Their relationship reportedly soured around 2020. Fans interpreted Burna Boy’s cryptic posts as digs at Davido. In September that year, Davido released ‘FEM’, which included the line “Tell Odogwu say we like to party,” widely seen as a response to Burna Boy.
Davido later told Ebuka Obi-Uchendu that the pair were brothers. He also said the line was an invitation for Burna Boy to call him.
Tensions continued despite apparent truce
In December 2020, both singers were in Ghana for the festive season. Reports claimed they clashed at a club. Twist Club said security stopped the situation from escalating. No footage of a fight emerged.
Tensions appeared to ease in 2021/2022 when Burna Boy said, “David wasn’t tryna one on one with me, but we figured it out.”
However, the peace did not last. In February 2024, Burna Boy exchanged words with a Davido fan on X. He also used a derogatory term for Davido, reigniting speculation about their strained relationship.
Why their handshake matters
The latest encounter has renewed hopes of reconciliation among fans. Unconfirmed reports claim the singers spoke privately in an upstairs room while members of their camps waited outside. Neither artiste has publicly confirmed the claim or commented on the handshake.
Their meeting took place at Zlatan’s bachelor party ahead of his wedding to Davita Lamai on Saturday, October 24.
Zlatan shares close ties with both stars. He featured on Davido’s ‘Osanle’ in 2018 and Burna Boy’s ‘Killin Dem’ the following year. The latter won Best Collaboration at The Headies.
Davido arrived in Nigeria earlier in the week. He also posted bundles of dollar bills on Instagram, saying he was ready for his friend’s wedding.
Zlatan’s wedding, themed #DTTheUnion, is scheduled for October 24, 2026.
