In what proved to be one of the lowest and most tasteless political adverts of all time, the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, splashed on the front pages of the Punch newspaper and the Sun newspaper the most shameful advert of all time where he asked Nigerians if they wanted an end to “State funerals”.
The advert, which was in bad taste and featured former heads of state of Nigeria called on Nigerians to refuse to vote for Northerners and he even went as far as backing his advert with a bible verse.
The advert has elicited varied responses from commentators and there’s an ongoing debate as to whether the newspapers in question-The Punch as well as the daily sun should have run the advert in the first place.
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress and the intended target of the advert took to his twitter page to respond. He tweeted; “How can his (President Goodluck Jonathan) campaign be talking about ex-dead leaders, jogging around the stadium and outright lies about health?”
It is worthy of note that the political campaign of the PDP has seemed to be centred around discrediting the opposition as well as spreading falsehood about the opposition candidate.
Many commentators strongly opine that the use of such distasteful tactics and this unforgivable gaffe by Governor Ayo Fayose just might cost President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan the elections.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, call Ayo Fayose to do the dirty job!! Shame on PDP for this.
Shame PDP! your desperation could cost you the elections.
