BTS member V has revealed that he is receiving treatment for hearing loss in his right ear as the group continues its Arirang World Tour.
The singer, whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung, made the revelation during a Wednesday livestream with fellow member Jungkook. V said his right ear now functions at about a third of the level of his left ear.
He explained that he initially did not take the problem seriously. He described it as “a matter of mental strength.” However, he is now taking medication and visiting the hospital regularly to manage the condition.
V’s Hearing Problem
V said his hearing problems became worse during his mandatory military service. He began his service in 2023 and completed it in June 2025.
South Korea requires nearly all able-bodied men to complete 18 months of military service. The rule also applied to all seven BTS members.
The hearing loss disclosure comes as BTS tours internationally. The Arirang World Tour began in South Korea in April. The tour reunited all seven members after their individual military service.
The group recently completed tour dates in Baltimore, Maryland. Its upcoming stops include Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Sydney and Hong Kong.
Jungkook Shares Injury Update
Jungkook also spoke about his health during the livestream. The singer said he has been managing a shin injury throughout the tour.
He revealed that he is close to developing a stress fracture. He will therefore need to manage the injury carefully to continue performing.
BTS and the Grammys
The health updates come weeks after BTS made headlines over the 69th Grammy Awards.
In July, the group said it would not submit its music for Grammy consideration. The decision came after the Recording Academy introduced a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.
Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. responded, “The Asian Pop category was created to celebrate the depth, diversity and extraordinary growth of pop artistry coming out of Asia. The spirit of this new category is to shine a dedicated spotlight on these important artists. More categories mean more artists’ work is recognised. It’s never to divide, but to expand who is recognised by our 15,000 Grammy voters.”
