Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has explained why he celebrates divorce. He said it can free people from unhappy marriages and help them find peace.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Bovi said he does not see every divorce as a failure.
“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, neither will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said.
Bovi also noted that marriage comes with challenges. Reflecting on his own experience, he said, “That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop.”
The 46-year-old comedian is married to Kris Asimonye. They tied the knot in 2009 and have three children: David, Elena and Chuchu.
In 2025, the couple celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on social media. They shared family photos to mark the occasion.
Bovi has also spoken about family responsibilities in the past. He acknowledged that many people expect men to provide for their families. However, he believes women should have the freedom to pursue their goals and build financial independence.
