According to reports, a bomb exploded in Ile-Ife in the early hours of Tuesday.
The explosion is said to have occurred at about 3am in the Agbede area of the town, which houses the Obafemi Awolowo University.
This was confirmed by the Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Youths and Special Needs, Biyi Odunlade.
He said:
“This is an APC stronghold, I am sure the intention is to kill many of our people in this area”
The explosion was also said to have occurred near the family home of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sikiru Ayedun.
The state commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maishanu who confirmed the incident said “the explosion was a minor one and not a major explosion.”
He said the state Police command would reinforce security in all parts of the state, assuring all residents of the state to continue with the activities peacefully.
No life was lost in the explosion.
