Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie ahead of her headline performance at the island nation’s 50th Independence Day anniversary celebrations.
The 24-year-old Nigerian singer, born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, arrived in Seychelles for the Golden Jubilee celebrations and is scheduled to perform on Monday at Stad Popiler.
During the courtesy visit, President Herminie welcomed the Mavin Records artiste and thanked her for joining the historic milestone, describing the anniversary as a celebration of Seychelles’ progress, culture, unity and international friendship.
A video from the meeting showed Starr expressing appreciation for the warm reception she received upon arriving in the country. She also praised the hospitality of the Seychellois people and the beauty of the island nation while looking forward to her performance.
“My name is Ayra Starr, from Lagos, Nigeria. I am so happy to be in the Seychelles… Expect star girl energy, expect to have fun, expect to dance, to lose your voice by singing loudly, and just expect to have a good time,” she said.
“If you want to see me sing, come on Monday. Shout out to the Seychelles people, you guys are amazing. I just got in today, and I feel all the love, and I can’t wait to see you on Monday.”
Starr rose to international prominence with her 2021 hit Bloody Samaritan and has since established herself as one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats stars under Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy. She has also earned several awards and nominations on the global music stage.
