It’s been a tight, tense and breathtaking build up to this moment. The 2015 elections has definitely captured the hearts and minds of Nigerians and for the last few months, it has formed the core of many an argument and discussion.
Without doubt, one of the most interesting aspects for many people so far is the all important question of who wins the All Progressives Congress Presidential ticket. In plain terms, there are two major parties in Nigeria today, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress and the competition between both parties doesn’t look like abating anytime soon.
The APC model themselves as the new face of change, as the new order of doing things differently and democratically and in recent years, their ranks have swelled.
Perhaps, it is because of their increasing popularity that five heavy weight candidates have thrown their hats in =to the ring to jostle for the APC Presidential ticket.
Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, the outstanding governor of Kano state, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, Sam Nda Isaiah, the publisher of the Leadership newspaper as well as the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha and the former Head of state, Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd).
With the profile of the aspirants, it is a difficult task to narrow down the main contenders, however, Muhammadu Buhari, by virtue of having contested for President before and being such a popular figure in many parts of the country has to be put forward as one of the main contenders. The same argument applies to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In what has come to be seen as a two horse race pitching Atiku’s vast political machinery and mettle against Muhammadu Buhari’s reputation as a no nonsense incorruptible figure, today marks a point where we’ll know who the triumphant will be. There’s one thing we know for sure, and it’s that right now, it’s too close to call.
The APC national convention holds today in Lagos at the Teslim Balogun Stadium where the Presidential Primaries is scheduled to hold.
The nation waits with bated breath for the outcome!
