Defending champions Arsenal will start their 2026/27 Premier League title defence against Coventry City, while Liverpool travel to Newcastle United in one of the standout matches of the opening weekend.
The Premier League confirmed the fixtures on Thursday, setting up an exciting start to the new campaign.
Arsenal Begin Title Defence at Home
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will host Championship winners Coventry at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season. After facing Coventry, they will travel to Aston Villa before hosting Chelsea, now managed by Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool Face Tough Newcastle Test
Liverpool’s first league game under Andoni Iraola will be away at Newcastle on Sunday, August 23.
The Reds also face a demanding schedule later in the season. They will meet Manchester City and Arsenal in October before taking on Manchester United and Everton in successive matches in November.
Manchester City will begin life without Pep Guardiola at home to Bournemouth on August 23. However, City’s first matches against last season’s top-five clubs will all take place away from home.
Promoted Clubs Return
Hull City will mark their Premier League return with a home game against Manchester United at the MKM Stadium.
Ipswich Town will host Sunderland in another opening-weekend clash involving promoted teams.
London derbies between Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur, and Fulham and Chelsea, are among the headline fixtures in the first round.
Festive Schedule Confirmed
The Premier League said clubs will receive at least a 60-hour break between matches during the Christmas and New Year period.
The league said: “We will endeavour to announce fixtures with as much notice as possible, but as we saw last season, there will be changes made at shorter notice than desired if clubs progress into the latter stages of European competitions.”
League officials also confirmed a full programme of Boxing Day fixtures.
Season Ends in May 2027
The 2026/27 Premier League season will end on May 30, 2027.
All final-day matches will kick off at 4 p.m. as teams battle for the title, European places and survival.
