The Argentina Football Association has sent Lionel Scaloni a new Lionel Scaloni contract proposal extending his tenure through the 2028 Copa América. The proposed agreement includes an option that could keep Scaloni in charge through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports, the AFA wants to secure Scaloni’s future after his current contract expires in December 2026. Negotiations have advanced, although Scaloni has not yet given a definitive response regarding the proposed extension.
Under the reported structure, the Lionel Scaloni contract would initially run until the 2028 Copa América before potentially extending further. The additional option would allow both parties to continue their partnership through the 2030 World Cup.
Scaloni previously raised doubts about his future following Argentina’s defeat against Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. However, recent developments indicate that the coach remains open to discussions about continuing with the national team.
The AFA’s proposal reflects its desire to maintain continuity under the coach who guided Argentina to major international success. Scaloni led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title and Copa América triumphs in 2021 and 2024.
He also guided the team to the 2026 World Cup final, adding another major achievement to his managerial record. For now, negotiations remain ongoing as both sides work toward resolving the remaining details of the proposed agreement.
