Anne Hathaway Days of Thunder 2 is officially happening, with the Oscar-winning actress joining Tom Cruise for Paramount’s highly anticipated sequel. Tom Cruise confirmed the project through social media, sharing footage featuring Hathaway beside him at Daytona International Speedway recently.
The sequel will bring Cruise back as Cole Trickle, his iconic NASCAR driver from the original 1990 racing movie.
Hathaway will portray a racecar team owner and engineer, giving the actress a major role within the franchise’s racing world. Jonathan Levine will direct the project, while Will Staples handles screenplay duties for the upcoming Paramount racing sequel. Cruise will also produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, continuing his involvement behind the scenes alongside starring duties.
The original film arrived in 1990, featuring Cruise alongside Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, and John C. Reilly. That movie followed Cole Trickle as he entered NASCAR, battled competitors, and navigated intense rivalries throughout his racing career.
Nearly four decades later, Cruise will return behind the wheel as the franchise enters an entirely new chapter. Paramount currently plans to release the sequel theatrically on June 2, 2028, with IMAX and premium formats expected. The production will reportedly embrace IMAX presentation, promising audiences a larger cinematic experience when the racing spectacle reaches theaters.
