The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that train service would resume at the Abuja-Kaduna route on Wednesday, 29th July, 2020 ahead of the Eid-Kabir festival.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the train service was shut down to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country and there has since been pressure to reopen the train service ahead of the Muslim holiday.
Rotimi Amaechi has finally succumbed to pressure and has stated that the Abuja-Kaduna train service will resume on Wednesday, July 29. He also disclosed that the fare has been reviewed in order to accommodate Nigerians.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transportation purchased new locomotives and coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna Rail which has already been tested. The Ministry of Transportation also disclosed its plans to increase the Abuja-Kaduna frequency from four return trips to seven.
