Of course this is no regular Mavins type sound and ordinarily would get the stick from us. But there are a few areas of interest on the three and half minutes cut so we approach this mildly. The team adopts a reggae sound pattern, but Jazzy seems a bit new on this turf and struggles to recreate what we’ve come to know him for. No real build-up, well, except Tiwa and Korede who make good appearances on this.
D’Prince drives the central theme of the song on his verse: “Looku looku dem dema look me yimmu/ Make you no mind anything dem talk, make you no mind anything dem yarn/ Aproko (gossips) go talk anything dem like…”
There is also a bit of Di’ja and Reekado in that okay list. Other than this, the rest of the song is just there to make the numbers. Dr SID, particularly, doesn’t leave any impressions on the music. And I still don’t get why he didn’t kill off the track on his verse. Actually, Dr SID doesn’t do badly on this. He steers the song nicely as he gets on it somewhere midway. In all, Jazzy brings balance and bits of shine in as well with his catchy, pidgin hook. The song makes for an interesting listen after all said, although it isn’t anywhere in the category of Don Jazzy’s best production-wise, neither is it in one of the Mavin’s overwhelming pieces.
Listen and rate, a Hit or a Miss?
