Vincent Kompany collapses during Bayern Munich training, prompting emergency attention as the club confirms the manager was taken to hospital. The 40-year-old Belgian coach collapsed Friday while watching Bayern’s reserve team train at the club’s Säbener Straße ground in Munich.
Bayern Munich confirmed the incident in an official statement, explaining Kompany is undergoing examinations and will remain under medical care. The club added his coaching staff will temporarily oversee training sessions and match-related responsibilities while he receives treatment and assessment.
Reports say Kompany travelled to hospital with emergency medical assistance, while a rescue helicopter arrived at the training ground nearby. The collapse followed a viral infection that affected his schedule before Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal earlier this week.
Kompany missed the pre-match press conference and training earlier in the week, but returned to the touchline for Wednesday’s match. After Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Kompany acknowledged he had ignored his body’s warning signs while dealing with a virus.
Vincent Kompany collapses amid concerns about his recent illness, although Bayern has not announced a diagnosis or detailed prognosis publicly. Sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany’s health remains the club’s highest priority and promised he would receive care and support.
Eberl said the club would give Kompany time to recover, while teammates and supporters await further official updates from Bayern. Bayern currently lead the Bundesliga and are scheduled to face Freiburg this weekend, with staff managing preparations in Kompany’s absence.
The club’s immediate focus remains the manager’s recovery as medical professionals conduct further examinations at the hospital at this time. Kompany joined Bayern in 2024 after coaching Burnley and has guided the German club to success, including the Bundesliga title. Fans have sent support messages after the news, while Bayern says its coaching team will handle duties until Kompany returns.
