Nollywood actress Carolyna Hutchings has quit The Real Housewives of Lagos, saying none of her castmates was ever truly her friend.
Hutchings announced her exit in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday. She said she was ready to close that chapter and move on.
The actress also expressed frustration that the reality show still shapes public views about her. This comes despite the show having stopped filming new episodes in early 2025.
“It is exhausting being part of a reality TV show in Nigeria,” she wrote.
Hutchings also urged the public and bloggers to stop linking her to the drama involving other cast members.
Hutchings says castmates were never her friends
The actress explained that viewers may have mistaken her relationship with the cast for genuine friendship.
She described herself as an introvert. She said she does not form real friendships with people from the show, either on or off camera.
Hutchings added that her kindness towards her castmates should not be mistaken for friendship.
“None of the cast members is my friend,” she said.
According to the actress, she prefers to connect with people whose energy matches hers outside the reality TV space.
She also said the show had affected how people viewed her career and private life. She added that it had even influenced public perceptions of her role as a mother.
“The show was a chapter of my life that I enjoyed. That chapter is closed. It is a new dawn,” she wrote.
Carolyna Hutchings’ Real Housewives journey
Hutchings joined The Real Housewives of Lagos as an original cast member when the show premiered on Showmax in April 2022.
She appeared alongside Iyabo Ojo, Laura Ikeji Kanu, Chioma Ikokwu, Toyin Lawani-Adebayo and Mariam Timmer.
Hutchings did not appear in the second season. She later returned for the third season, which moved to Africa Magic in January 2025.
Outside reality television, Hutchings has built a two-decade career in Nollywood as an actress and producer.
She has appeared in more than 60 films and produced several award-winning projects through her production company, Afrivista Films.
Following her exit from the reality show, Hutchings said she would focus on her film career.
