Lionel Messi has bid farewell to his father, Jorge Messi, following his death at the age of 68 after a battle with cancer. Messi arrived in Rosario late Saturday on a private flight from Miami alongside his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their children.
A private funeral ceremony took place Sunday at El Prado cemetery in Perez, near Rosario, with close family members attending. Several Argentina teammates also gathered around Messi following the announcement of Jorge Messi’s passing at a Rosario clinic late Friday.
Fans left handwritten messages outside the cemetery gates, offering words of strength and support to Messi and his family. Messages including “Stay strong, Leo, we love you” reflected the affection supporters continue showing the Argentine football icon. Another message urged the Messi family to remain strong as they navigated the painful loss of their loved one.
