Yoruba actor Oluwole Cole, better known as Baraka, says he will continue to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election despite claiming he never received payment for campaign work during the 2023 presidential race.
The actor disclosed in an interview with African A-List. He said politics is deeply rooted in his Lagos Island community and remains a major part of his life.
Why Baraka Remains Loyal
Baraka said he and several others dedicated time to Tinubu’s campaign and sacrificed income-generating opportunities in the process.
“During the 2023 election, I campaigned for Tinubu, but we were not given any money. At the time, many of the people who campaigned left their jobs to do so. As for me, aside from acting, I also work as an MC, and I know how much I can earn in a month,” he said.
The actor explained that campaign activities affected his regular work schedule and earnings.
“I lost some work opportunities during that period, just like others did. I also missed out on some acting gigs, and in the end, we were not given the money we were promised.”
Confidence in Future Payment
Despite the alleged unpaid compensation, Baraka said he still believes he will receive his money.
“As for me, Seyi Tinubu will still pay my own money. He is a good boy, so he will settle me. I’m from Lagos Island; politics is part of our way of life. I’m involved in politics, and I will continue to support Tinubu. I can’t leave him.”
His comments suggest that his political loyalty outweighs his disappointment over the unpaid campaign work.
Other Actors Raise Similar Concerns
Baraka is among several entertainers who have recently spoken about their experiences after the 2023 election.
Actress Aminatu Papapa previously said she regretted supporting Tinubu during the presidential campaign.
Veteran actor Alapini also expressed regret. He claimed that he and other celebrities who campaigned for the president did not receive the compensation or recognition they expected.
Similarly, actor Lalude said campaign supporters were abandoned after they worked for the election of President Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
