A public dispute has erupted in the family of late Nollywood actor John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor after his third son, Somtochukwu Okafor, accused the actor’s widow, Stella Okafor, of selling his father’s properties and excluding other children from their inheritance.
The dispute followed Stella’s appeal for financial assistance. She said the family had lived without electricity for two months because of unpaid bills. She also said her children had been sent home from school over unpaid fees.
In a viral video, Somtochukwu rejected her claims. He alleged that Stella sold several of Mr Ibu’s properties without informing his other children.
“My father’s property, his house in Lagos, was sold for N60 million. She didn’t bother to reach out to any of his children,” he said.
He also claimed Stella sold a house in Enugu for N17 million and another property in Asaba for N11 million. According to him, she only gave him N40,000 after selling the Enugu house.
“And my father also had the property in Asaba. She sold it for N11 million. She didn’t give me any. The money in the bank is N60 million. All that Nigerians contributed to my dad when he was sick was N66 million. She ate everything alone.”
Somtochukwu further claimed he could not collect his WAEC results because he still owed school fees. He said Mr Ibu had instructed Stella to take care of his education before his death.
Mr Ibu died of cardiac arrest on March 2, 2024, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after battling a prolonged illness.
