Tom Holland has revealed that Zendaya was the first person he told after learning that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “Avengers: Doomsday.”
The actor, known for accidentally revealing Marvel spoilers, kept the news secret for months. However, he shared it with Zendaya as soon as Downey told him.
Speaking to Cinemania, Holland recalled the moment he received the news.
“I think I hung up the phone and said [to Zendaya], ‘Downey is coming back,’” Holland admitted.
Holland said Downey personally informed him about the return. He also explained that Marvel limits the information it shares with him because of his history of revealing spoilers.
“[Robert and I] just have casual catch-ups now and then. He called and told me. It’s really exciting. I don’t know a lot about those movies by design. I have a reputation for spoiling certain things, and I think the studio is keeping me from the juicy details… when I do get to grace that set, I am so curious what that means for Peter [Parker] and how that works. It’s really cool. I am really excited about whatever it is they are doing.”
Holland first spoke about the secret on the “Rich Roll” podcast in 2024. He revealed that he was among the few people Downey trusted with the information.
“I’ve been speaking to [Robert] a lot, especially about him making his [Marvel] return, which is super exciting. That was a tough secret to sit on because I have a reputation for ruining things, and I strategically have done no press.”
Holland and Zendaya are currently promoting “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which opens in cinemas on July 31.
