Three decades after the franchise first won over audiences, Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” is earning strong praise from critics. Early reactions describe the sequel as emotional, funny, and a worthy addition to the beloved series.

Film critic Scott Menzel shared his thoughts on X after watching the movie. He wrote that the latest instalment “ranks right alongside the first three films, delivering a perfect blend of humour, heart, and that signature Pixar magic.”

Menzel also called the film “a wonderfully heartfelt return to form for Pixar Animation Studios and a reminder of why the ‘Toy Story’ franchise remains one of the greatest film series ever made.”

“Emotional, hilarious, and genuinely moving, ‘Toy Story 5’ may very well end up being one of the best films of 2026,” he added.

“The Movie Podcast” host Daniel Baptista also praised the film. He described watching it as a “generation-defining experience.” Baptista said the movie delivered “exactly the story we need right now.”

“Pixar once again delivers a meaningful, moving, and masterful must-see movie,” he continued. “Conan as Smarty Pants is an all-time great ‘TS’ character. This is Jessie’s story, and our sheriff shines.”

Variety senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay also shared a positive reaction. She described the film as “a magical and pure perfection.”

“It is a fantastic entry into the franchise. Jessie finally gets the story she deserves! It’s emotional, funny, genuinely warm, and perfect in every way. Loved the new addition of characters. I laughed and cried at how marvellous ‘Toy Story 5’ is,” Tangcay wrote.

The strong reactions suggest Pixar has delivered another memorable chapter in the franchise. Many critics already view “Toy Story 5” as one of the series’ standouts.
