Shine Roseman Speaks on Sexual Harassment in Nigerian Markets

Shine Roseman has continued to spark conversations online after speaking boldly about the disturbing reality of sexual harassment faced by many women in Nigerian markets and public spaces.

During an emotional interview with Tolu Afilaka, Shine Roseman specifically mentioned areas like Yaba in Lagos, describing how many women are touched inappropriately while walking through crowded streets and markets. According to her, the situation has become so common that almost everyone knows it happens, yet little or nothing is being done to address it properly.

“You know how bad sexual harassment is in Lagos,” she said during the conversation, explaining that many girls experience unwanted touching in public during broad daylight without any consequences for the offenders.

Shine also referenced a female TikTok creator she came across online who reportedly carries a cane around for protection. According to her, the lady once flogged a man who touched her inappropriately, and Shine openly supported the action, saying the man deserved it for crossing boundaries.

Speaking further, she said the TikTok creator has made it clear that any man who attempts to harass her physically will face immediate consequences. Shine reacted by saying many women are getting tired of remaining silent and defenceless in situations where they feel unsafe.

She added that if authorities and the government fail to take stronger action against sexual harassment, then women may begin defending themselves in whatever way they can. Shine also expressed disappointment that in 2026, sexual harassment is still treated casually in many parts of Nigeria, despite how serious and traumatic the issue can be for victims.
