Nigeriaโs content creator and musician Carter Efe has made history on the global streaming platform Twitch by setting the most watched Twitch livestream in Africa with a peak audience of 83,000 viewers during an unforgettable session featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido. The landmark event has sparked widespread reactions across social media and entertainment circles.

The livestream took place on Wednesday and quickly became one of the most talked about online events of the year, bringing together fans of both Carter Efe and Davido in record-breaking numbers. The broadcast not only smashed viewership records but also propelled Carter Efe to become Africaโs most-followed Twitch streamer, a title previously held by fellow Nigerian creator Shank Comics.
By Thursday, checks showed Carter Efeโs follower count on Twitch had surged to over 406,000 followers, up from about 322,000 just days earlier. This rapid growth, triggered by the livestream with Davido, cemented his new status at the top of the African Twitch charts.

The record-setting stream also marked another milestone for African creators, as Carter Efe became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on Twitch. Subscribers represent users who pay to support the channel, underscoring how engaged his audience has become in a short span of time.
A Historic Twitch Night and Celebrity Appearances
The livestream was more than just a screen event; it featured a blend of entertainment, surprise interactions, and high-profile guest appearances that kept viewers glued to their screens. During the session, Davido introduced Carter Efe to several notable personalities, including his wife and socialite Cubana Chief Priest, drawing cheers and reactions from fans.

In another exciting moment, Davido even dialled Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, for a live on-stream conversation, adding a sporting twist to the broadcast that thrilled both football and music fans alike.
The livestream also went viral for an unexpected twist when content creator Enzo suddenly popped up and playfully challenged Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match to โproveโ his loyalty to Davidoโs 30BG fan base. That moment quickly became one of the most shared clips from the stream, generating buzz across TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.
Beyond the record viewership, there were also calls to Twitch leadership. Davido used the platform to make a case directly to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, urging him to consider deals for Carter Efe, highlighting the rising influence of African streamers on the global stage.
