In a heartfelt message, the Nigerian singer revealed that the record has been five years in the making and represents both his evolution as an artist and his deep connection to Fuji music.

Fans have seen different sides of Adekunle Gold through his past albums. Gold introduced him as a soulful storyteller, About 30 captured his reflections at a pivotal age, while Afro Pop Vol. 1, Catch Me If You Can, and Tequila Ever After showcased his versatility. But this new chapter, which he calls Kosoko music, combines his personal experiences with his family’s Fuji heritage.

Between 2019 and 2020, Adekunle Gold experienced life-changing events. He married singer Simi in early 2019, lost his father later that year, and welcomed his daughter Adejare in 2020. These moments of joy and grief shaped his perspective and ultimately inspired his songwriting.

Fuji, he explains, was the soundtrack of his childhood in Lagos. From street sounds to family gatherings, the genre carried grit, history, and survival. It also runs in his bloodline, with his father and great-grandfather connected to the tradition. By embracing Fuji, Adekunle Gold says he is not only paying tribute to his roots but also carrying the sound into the future.

“This is deeper than music,” he notes. “It is the depth of my story, the soundtrack of my becoming, and a bridge between where I started and where I’m going.”
