Lagosians do not seem to be impressed by the state governor’s announcement about changing his office title.
Last night, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that he does not want to bear the title, Your Excellency, again. According to him, he wants to be called Mr Governor.
The governor took to his social media page to explain that the change in title was because he thinks that the former title connotes autocracy, which does not truly represent the office.
He stated that the former title makes the holder looks like an oppressor, distorting the perception of the people towards the office holder. To change that, Sanwo-Olu said he decided to bear a simpler and more representative title.
Nigerians have now taken to the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, to react to the governor’s announcement.
Read some reactions below:
Mr Governor sir,
Life expectancy in Lagos has dropped drastically and it's not getting better.
There are more potholes than the 9million+ living in Lagos. The drainage is very bad, hence rainy days are horrible.
Waste management is still a mess…
Please do something sir ? https://t.co/vZKdVyTlQY

While Seyi Makinde is repairing roads, printing free copies of past questions for schools and basically just working, your Pontius Pilate in Lagos is concerned with being called His Excellency or Mr Governor.
Tragic.

Kudos Mr. Governor sir, for being modest and humble. But how about the Lagos slogan, "Center of Excellence"? Expect a change? Afterall the general opinion of most Lagosians is that there is nothing excellent about Lagos now.

Your excellency Sir, if you fix Lagos roads, fix tanker issues, reduce traffic to barest minimum, provide basic amenities, make life in Lagos easier, trust me you won't have to worry about a name!! We the people will give you a befitting name worthy of you and your office!!

Really?? Babajide. Titles shouldn't be the main issue here, there's the states governance that which has been neglected.
Can someone serve this guy a 'negligence of duties' query. Worrying about name calling.

Your head is actually very correct. It certainly doesn’t improve performance neither does it guarantee acceptance or popularity. People need an improvement in their lives. In the past 6 months, that unfortunately hasn’t been the case.

Mr Governor have you noticed the terrible traffic on Lagos roads in recent time due to potholes? Have also noticed that most street lights don’t work? This poses a huge danger for those who drive at night. Mr Governor we need service not change of title.
