The Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, resigned yesterdat following mass protests after a fire incident at a nightclub left 30 people dead.
He bowed to pressure after thousands of people protested in Bucharest and despite his resignation, the protests have entered a second day. Protests were also held in other parts of the city as Romanians demanded a real change in government, decrying the corruption of past administrations.
Victor Ponta served as Prime Minister since 2012 and is facing charges of fraud, money and tax evasion. Confidence in his government was already at an all time low before protests began and it remains to be seen how the protests will affect Romania’s uncertain political future.
