Despite two bomb blasts, sporadic gunfire and the death of two persons in the capital city Bujumbura, elections in Burundi went on as planned.
After months of protest following incumbent President Pierre Nkurunziza’s decision to run for a third term even though there’s a constitutional limit of two tenures, as well as an attempted coup, President Pierre pressed on for his third term bid.
Running unopposed, President Pierre is expected to win the election with vote counting beginning today and the election results expected to be announced by the electoral commission tomorrow.
