The incumbent and Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the run up to the March 28 elections is leaving no stone unturned.
In an election where both frontline candidates are seeking endorsements from influential Nigerians, President Jonathan has turned to the traditional rulers in the South West in an attempt to secure the region.
He recently visited Yoruba traditional rulers over the course of the past four days in a bid to get them to support his reelection. His South West support looks under threat especially because the opposition party has most of its support in the South West region.
It probably also helped matters that Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo has been bashing the President in the media in recent weeks.
Several PDP chieftains reportedly accompanied the President on his visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi II, he also paid courtesy calls to the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Ajagungbade also in Oyo State on Saturday.
It is however doubtful that the support of traditional rulers will have any real impact on the election outcomes especially as Yoruba traditional rulers have never been known to possess any real political influence.
