In what is fast becoming something of a norm, unknown assailants stormed a prison today in Minna,the Niger state capital. The New Minna prison is located in the Tungea area off David Mark road.
Heavily armed unknown assailants invaded the prison at about 4:30 p.m and succeeded in freeing over 270 inmates. Reports have it that a warder was killed during the attack as the heavily armed invaders easily overpowered the prison officials.
This latest attack comes barely two weeks after a similar attack at a prison in Ekiti state as well as a jail break in a prison in Kogi state. It is unclear what the authorities are doing to stem the tide of what is fast becoming a menace.
As at the time of writing this report, no official statement by the prison authorities has been issuesd.
