An overpass under construction in Kolkata, India collapsed on Thursday afternoon, killing 24 people and leaving an estimated 80 people injured.

The construction company, IVRCL Infrastructure Co called the collapse “an act of God”, a comment which has drawn remarkable public criticism. Five officials of the construction company have been arrested by Kolkata police as their office was also sealed.

Investigations have begun to determine if the company will be charged with culpable homicide and criminal breach of trust.
