– Tell us about yourself and your background in music
I am Cupid and I am a musician. I’m a cool guy who tries to imbibe love in all I do especially in my music. My real names are Fuad Ado-Ibrahim. I am very passionate about the arts although I am an undergraduate of the University of Lagos studying Cell Bilogy & Genetics. Music has always been a huge interest for me since my early years in school. i listened to a lot of music growing up. So its only natural that i end up creating my own music. The dream started to become a reality from the first day i stepped foot into a studio, so fast forward and today you meet Cupid.
– Performing on stage or recording in the studio?
Performing and Recording is a major part of the career and i enjoy it. being able to perform the music i create to people is accomplishing to me. Recording to me comes easy when i’m in tune with the producer, i like producers that can interpret my ideas. and i always like keeping positive minded people around , this makes my sessions productive.
– Who are your role models in the Nigerian music industry?
Them plenty small ooooo.. Lol!!! We have a lot of successful acts in the Nigerian industry right now and i can say they all inspire me one way or the other. We have the likes of 2face, Darey , Banky W and D’banj for example.
– Who do you look forward to collaborating with?
A collaboration with 2face will come out lovely. My music can blend with his quite easily. and i like his person and all he stands for. one love!
– How many records/singles have you released so far?
There has been a lot of unofficial music that i have dropped in the past , but since my record deal i have dropped a cover of Mark Morrison’s “Return of the mack” which i Called “Son of the mack” . you can watch the video on youtube (so u can call me Mack Jnr lol) , And now i have an official single out called “Always On My Mind” produced by Dj Coublon.
– What has the reception of your music with your Unilag fans been like?
The love has been amazing from my year 1, i’m in my final year now. The support has been great and i appreciate everything.
– What inspires you to make music?
Love inspires my music . love for the fans , love for humanity, love for the ladies. just going out randomly and seeing things can trigger a theme to me. i could make a club jam to show love to the youth. most times im amazed at what can inspire me so i always keep an open mind to life.
– You’ve been tagged “the future of Nigeria’s hip hop/R&b ” by some producers, how well are you ready to launch yourself into the mainstream in the music industry?
Wow, I appreciate the acknowledgments. its been a long time coming and i have done alot over the years , so yes i am prepared by The grace of God.
– What is your perception of the Nigerian music industry as it relates to your songs?
The industry has really grown and is still growing ,so i’m excited to be a part of it. I’m impressed with the way corporate brands identify with our artistes and i’m sure i have things to offer in that aspect and in terms of being a good role model to the public. plus speaking of my songs and the way i brand them around love i see relativity in my music and the growth of the music industry of the country.

I have worked withe The likes of Ex-O who has produced for top artistes like Wizkid and Dj Coublon who produced my single “Always on my mind” has produced for Iyanya.
– Which top producers do you intend to work with?
I’d like to work with Don Jazzy , Tee-Y mix and Shizzi to mention a few.
– How do you balance your schedule between studying and making music?
It’s been a struggle i have to admit. The both require a lot of attention and dedication. But I always try my best to keep the both well attended to.
