Veteran Nollywood actor, Zack Orji has talked candidly about a terrifying incident that required him to undergo two brain surgeries in Nigeria.
Orji described the sequence of events that led to a serious medical issue when he slumped in the bathroom in an interview that aired on Channels TV on Sunday, April 22, 2024.
“I slumped in the bathroom, and I can only say that it’s by the grace of God that I’m alive today because I passed out. I was out for like five and a half hours before help came,” Orji said.
Fortunately, someone at Zack Orji’s residence alerted his friend Bala Ahmed, but Ahmed was in the UK at the time, so he contacted another colleague, Benedict Johnson in Nigeria, who quickly responded, racing to his aid.
“Benedict Johnson rushed to the house, and I was there on the floor, incoherent. I couldn’t even stand because when he raised me, I slumped again, and he had to call another colleague whom we call Labista.
Orji’s wife, who was in Lagos at the time, flew to Abuja after being contacted by Nigeria’s Minister for Women Affairs.
The first surgery was carried out on January 1st, 2024 by neurosurgeon Dr. Biodun Ogungbo. “He is a very awesome guy”, Zack Orji praised.
A month later, scans showed that there was still a blood clot, necessitating a second surgical procedure.
Orji mentioned that he has received great support from notable individuals such as the Nigerian President, the wives of the President and the Vice President, the President’s son, and several ministers, amongst others.
The actor also mentioned receiving calls and support from people in the UK, United States, South Africa, and all over the world.
