A former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for offences relating to economic and financial crimes.
This development was made known in a notice posted on the commission’s official social media pages on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
On their Instagram page, EFCC wrote, “Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion. Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the commission or the nearest Police Station”.
The anti-graft agency had already declared that it would arraign the former governor before an Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday(today).
The arraignment plans came after the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an arrest warrant for the EFCC to detain the former governor.
Recall that on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, officers from the Nigeria Police Force and a group of armed men known as “Special Forces” interfered at Bello’s Abuja home to stop EFCC agents from arresting him.
Yahaya Bello, Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, the other three defendants, will be arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite.
They are charged with 19 counts of money laundering totaling N80,246,470,088.88.
