The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have announced that the 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The show will once more be broadcast live from Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA’s Dolby Theatre.
The event will still take place in March as per tradition, following a run of high viewership that fits in with the schedules of previous years.
The deadline for general entry and best picture submissions is set for Thursday, November 14, 2024.
The preliminary voting for the 10 categories’ shortlists will take place from December 9–13, 2024, and the results will be made public on December 17, 2024. The nominations voting process will thereafter be held from January 8–12, 2024.
The 97th Oscars nominations will be unveiled on Friday, January 17, 2025. The luncheon honouring the Oscar nominees will take place on Monday, February 10, 2025. And all of this builds up to March 2, the big day.
An important change notable for mentioning this year is the extended period between nominations and final voting, spanning almost four weeks.
Over 19.5 million people watched the Oscars in 2024, the most in the previous four years. This was Jimmy Kimmel’s fourth time hosting the show. He might return in 2025, but that is still unknown.
