Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky has pleaded guilty to currency(Naira) abuse charges.
The crossdresser pleaded guilty at the first court hearing on Friday, April 5, 2024, since his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
After pleading guilty to the charges, Bobrisky pleaded with the presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Ikeja, to tamper justice with mercy, while also regretting that he was not aware of such law in Nigeria.
“Give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money. I am a social media influencer with over five million followers. I would do a video on my page about people spraying money. I will not repeat it again my lord. I regret my actions”, the crossdresser and influencer pleaded.
The judge, however, stated clearly to Bobrisky that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. The presiding judge went ahead to adjourn the case to Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
While Bobrisky was arrested on charges of currency abuse, money laundering charges were filed against him.
However, the prosecution counsel successfully argued in Bobrisky’s favour, leading to the dismissal of the money laundering charges.
The crossdresser is held in a lone cell and could be facing six months in prison if the judge rules against him at the next court hearing.
