Popular Nigerian Broadcast Journalist, Media personality and TV Host Kayode Akintemi has been announced as the Managing Director of pan-African station News Central TV.
Akintemi who is an award-winning broadcaster and ICT Consultant with several years of experience was one time the General manager of Channels TV, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Plus TV Africa and an Executive Director at Arise TV.
News Central is a pan-African TV station broadcasting from Lagos broadcasting on DStv CH 422, StarTimes 274 and other online platforms.
Akintemi is expected to spearhead the station’s next stage of expansion and innovation through strategic direction, and content development. He is poised to improve the caliber of reporting, rekindling viewers’ interest and growing digital presence in reflection of a strong vision for the News Central brand.
Expressing his enthusiasm for this new role, Akintemi said, “I am honoured to join the News Central team. I look forward to working closely with our dedicated journalists and staff to deliver news and content that informs, engages, and empowers our audience. Strategically improve the caliber of content and programming with a keen focus on the Nigerian landscape and Africa-at-large.
One of the key focuses of the news platform according to the new Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, is for the station to be heavy on developmental & investigative journalism! We intend to create a level of enlightenment that speaks truth to power at all times and raise awareness about issues of socio-economic development to bring about positive changes to Africa.
He thanked the board for entrusting him with such onerous responsibility adding that his new role will help him crystalise some of his best ideas into shape.
Kayode Akintemi who hails from Ogun state, Nigeria was born June 26, 1965. He attended Federal Government College, Kano. He studied Mass Communication and majored in Broadcast journalism and production at the Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. He also received a postgraduate diploma in Information technology.
Akintemi hosted Special Interviews on BEN Television London, Sky Channel 184 for several years before returning to Nigeria to join Channels Television. He joined Channels Television in March 2011 as the General Manager in charge of Operations and was responsible for the core broadcast operations of the station.
Akintemi started his Broadcasting career as presenter of “Teen and Twenty Beats” with Radio Nigeria-2 AM/FM, in Lagos, Nigeria in the 1980s. Between 1987 and 1993, he worked with Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Nigeria, was Lecturer of Radio/TV Programmes Production at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, and managed Ogun State Television (OGTV) corps of Presenters and Newscasters, as Head of Presentation, presenting, producing / directing numerous television programmes.
He is a member of the Radio Academy, London, member of Royal Television Society in the United Kingdom, Senior Member of Society of Information Technology Managers (SOCITM) in the UK, Member of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and was a member of Institute of Directors (IOD), London for many years.
Kayode has a passion for mentoring, training, and development and has spent time acquiring knowledge on leadership and corporate governance from Harvard University in Boston amongst other institutions.
