This year for the first time, Essence Fest ā which has been celebrating African American culture in the United States for more than two decades ā is devoting a day, July 1st, 2023, to celebrate Nollywood films, actors, and actresses.
Started in the mid-1990s, the Essence Festival of Culture has evolved into one of the worldās largest celebrations of Black music and culture, bringing tens of thousands of attendees to New Orleans each year.
On June 28, 2023, the mayor of New Orleans, Latoya Cantrell officially welcomed the Nigerian delegates, and in attendance was the convener of Nigeria Day at Essence Festival, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, Veteran actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Stella Damasus, Juliet Ibrahim, Daniel Etim-Effiong amongst others.
