On Tuesday, Johnson Sinikiem, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the elections for PHALGA Federal Constituency II and the Port Harcourt City LGA Senate due to reported irregularities.
During a press conference in the state capital, Sinikiem stated that “INEC Rivers State has suspended PHALGA 11 House of Representative and Port Harcourt Local Government Area Senate Elections for alleged irregularities.” Additionally, Sinikiem mentioned that the commission has received reports of a threat to the life of Charles Adias, the Collation Officer for the Presidential election in the state, and his family members.
Adias had postponed the collation of results for the presidential election earlier that day due to the reported threat. Following this development, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State urged security agencies, particularly the police, to take action to prevent any efforts to disrupt the collation of results in the state.
