A foreign miner abducted by armed bandit at Iyere village via Itagunmodi in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State has been rescued by hunters.
Report was gathered that the expatriate was kidnapped at a gold mining site on Wednesday after the bandits shot several times in the air to scare other miners away.
The bandits later contacted the relatives of their victim to demand for ransom which was yet to be paid up till the point of rescue.
A security source told our correspondent that the kidnappers were suspected to be of the Fulani stock.
“The criminals that perpetrated the kidnapping of the miner expatriate are Fulani bandits. They attacked a mining site at Iyere to kidnap expatriates but one of them was later abducted while others escaped,” the source said.
“The incident happened on Wednesday but the security operatives led by the hunters group of Nigeria invaded their camp in the bush around 6pm on Saturday to rescue the expatriate. They engaged each other in a gun duel. After several minutes, the bandits abandoned the victim and some of their arms to escape from the scene.
“They rescued the expatriate unhurt but none of the bandits was arrested as they all fled the scene. The police later took the victim to hospital for treatment because he was brutalised by his abductors.”
When contacted, coordinator of the hunters, Nurein Hammed, confirmed the incident, saying that his men in joint operation with the police rescued the expatriate
