Nintendo has announced that the Super Mario Bros. animated movie will be released in theaters in 2022.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the development of the movie based on “Super Mario Bros.” is moving along and is set for an theatrical release in 2022.
The film will be co-produced by Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.
Universal and Nintendo are co-financing the project, while Universal will be in charge of the film’s distribution.
This push of Nintendo IP to different mediums than video games is only one of Nintendo’s initiatives. It has also confirmed the construction of the Super Nintendo World area at Universal Studios Japan is on track to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
