South African club, Chippa United are close to on appointing a new coach, the club’s fourth coach for the 2018/19 season which is just in its halfway point.
The Club parted ways with Eric Tinkler in December. Tinkler had been Dan Malesela’s replacement. The club has currently put put Joel Masutha in charge on an interim basis. If the club signs a new manager, he will be the fourth man on the Chippa United’s sidelines just halfway through the season.
Masutha is still looking for his first win in five attempts and recently lost 4-2 to Orlando Pirates.
The Eastern Cape club’s newly appointed CEO Morgan Mammila has said that a search for a new coach is already underway.
“No, I can’t confirm that (about Larsen). I have spoken to the chairman (Sivive ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi) and I gave him my recommendations. We will decide very soon on what’s going to happen,” Mammila told the Siya crew.
“There’s going to be a lot of changes and we are going to roll. (The changes will be in the) playing personnel, technical team and staff. We have to make those changes as soon as possible so that we can roll. I want winners around the team. The football loving people of the Eastern Cape, the supporters, don’t deserve the treatment that they got from the team. The priority is the team and then the supporters,” added the former Baroka FC CEO.
The supporters will also be given free entry to the stadium.
“From next week I will be in charge and I’m promising the supporters free entry (to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium) for the Maritzburg United game. Let’s fill up the stadium. We will make a certain number of tickets available for the supporters to collect because we can’t just issue tickets without a certain process,” said Mammila.
Asked if Masutha will still be in charge for the Team of Choice game, Mammila would not confirm the position of the former Black Leopards coach in the team.
“As I have said, I have given my recommendations to the chairman and that’s an urgent one. I am happy because I have been given those powers to do everything. I’m not going to abuse my powers, that’s for sure, but stats don’t lie (referring to Baroka FC cup success under his leadership). But I can’t do this all by myself. I need people who have expertise when it comes to that (club management). I think Eastern Cape had been robbed of happiness all along. I’m not saying that I’m going to do things in one day, but one thing is for sure that I am going to make people of the Eastern Cape happy,” added the official.
“I’ve got one foreigner and one South African. Both coaches have been in the PSL and have done well with their PSL teams.” He said on the the recruit.
