Gabon President, Ali Bongo has suffered stroke, the Vice-President has said.
The 59 year old who left hospital earlier this month is currently at a private residence recovering and this is the first official statement regarding the matter.
Vice President Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou on Saturday said Bongo had suffered a cerebrovascular accident or CVA, commonly known as a stroke.
His statement said: “Nobody should rejoice over the death or illness of another, those who have never known a CVA, pray to God that they never know one,”
“I would not wish it on anyone, not even my worst enemy.”
Bongo fell ill at an economic forum in Saudi Arabia on October 24. His illness sparked speculations that he was dead but a presidential spokesman initially he was only suffering from severe illness.
The Bongo family has governed the oil-rich African nation for fifty years.
