Saturday the 18th of May 2013, all roads led to the 2nd Annual Women4Africa Awards, in the Royal borough of Chelsea and
Kensington.
To Celebrate the best of African women the Mayor , Councillor Buckmaster and Mayoress of Chelsea and Kensington gave an opening address to the audience of over 800 people.
The Keynote speaker for the night Sir Paul Judge, gave a deep Insight in to his knowledge of the African continent and his love for African Women, he evidenced his business and work career that spanned over east , west and south Africa.
The awards ceremony was compered by the astute compere Princess Deun Solarin who took us through an exciting night in her beautiful attire and veteran broadcaster style.
16 Categories, 5 Recognition awards, an electrifying red carpet, Afro beat entertainment by Superstar Dele Sosimi, comedy by Funmbi and music by DJ Gabe.
The night was truly rewarding and honouring of African Women. Some of the highlights of the night included the joint winners of the Mother of the year category, Adebisi Osundeko and Jillian McCalla who had incredible life touching and true demonstrations of pure love for children and life.
The winner of the “ International African Woman of the Year” was Honorable Abike Dabiri , she flew in straight from Chicago and headed straight for the Awards which she said she would never miss.
She gave a brief but warm speech her commitment to African Women, shone through with a clear and distinct passion.
As with the maiden edition, the event reflected the presence of African Women from all over the continent, despite the Nigerians by their sheer numbers in the UK showing up more in nominations.
The special African woman award went to Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin she flew in to the UK with her family for the first time ever to grace this occasion.
The 2nd Annual Awards, was described as the most honourable event for African’s by Africans ever in the UK.
Another attendee said “No organisation in Europe has ever created a platform to celebrate African Women, so Women4Africa is the first of is kind”
Nominations came in from 34 African countries and shortlisted finalists from 20 countries.
Founders Sam and Tola Onigbanjo, once again have successfully served the African community in Europe be providing the largest and most relevant African owned and led Awards ceremony .
