Drake’s new album, Scorpion, has broken yet another record. According to billboardIt’s now the first album to surpass 1 billion streamsworldwide across all streaming platforms in one week. Post Malone’s album Beerbongs & Bentleyspreviously was the worldwide record holder with almost 700 million streams (April 27 to May 3) before Drake’s Scorpion surpassed it.
Drake took to Instagram to celebrate the achievement, posting the caption: “New era. New platinum,”
“Thank you a billion times over (a billion plus).”
Scorpion broke another one of Beerbongs’ records (431.3 million) by accumulating over 750 million streams in the U.S. in its first week. Those numbers should set Scorpionup to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with an estimated 700 equivalent album units, which is less than Views‘ debut week but good enough to be the biggest for an album in 2018.
“God’s Plan” has also become the most streamed song of the year, with 1.121 billion streams — making it the only song to pass a billion streams in 2018. Again, the second-most streamed song of the year is, Post Malone song with Ty Dolla Sign – “Psycho,” which has earned 576 million streams.
Scorpion also recorded over 750 million streams in the U.S. in its first week.
Scorpion is Drake’s fifth studio album.
