After reaching the first major tournament final in their history, Croatian captain Luca Modric has lashed out at the English press for being disrespectful to the Croatian team in the lead up the semi-final encounter with England.
Speaking after the game, the Real Madrid midfielder said: “Their journalists and pundits on television were talking prior to this match about us being tired, being the walking dead,” he told beIN SPORTS .
“Those words from them gave us even more eagerness to prove them wrong. They should be more humble and respectful.
“When you play a semi-final, it is impossible to be tired. You know how much is at stake. We showed that. Apart from against Argentina, that was our best game.”
Many in the English Press were running with the believe that the Croatian team would be tired after their exertions against Russia in the Quarter-final, which the former won through penalties.
